Wellness Wednesday: "EAT" by Dr. Ian Smith

Greetings!
Today, I heard an interview with Dr. Ian Smith  (you know, the guy from the Celebrity Fit Club; 50 Million Pound Challenge...Don't you just love him!)  promoting his new book, EATYes, "EAT"!!  In the interview, he tells us it is ok to eat!  Ok, we know that, but he was referring to "diets" that many of us have tried and well.... *anyway*

His approach, from what I gathered, was to educate us about what  we are consuming (the good and the bad) so we will understand its affect on the body.  He also focuses on changing your eating lifestyle (mindset) which will result in not only weight loss, but overall healthier living!  I also  found his 80/20 rule, eat healthy 80% of the time and eat what your heart desires the other 20%,  to be awesome and right up my alley!

Typically, I am not the "diet book" reader.  However, this book does not come across as that type of reading (to me) and I think I will check it out!  Let us know what you think!

Talk of the Town Tuesday: "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen

Greetings everyone!
We are back from a wonderful holiday weekend and we hope that you had a great time with friends and family..we did!  Today's "Talk" was taken from a discussion that was shared over this past weekend and Water for Elephants was mentioned.  I had not heard of this book but decided to look more into it.  Here is a brief synopsis: (from Amazon.com)

Jacob Jankowski says: "I am ninety. Or ninety-three. One or the other." At the beginning of Water for Elephants, he is living out his days in a nursing home, hating every second of it. His life wasn't always like this, however, because Jacob ran away and joined the circus when he was twenty-one. It wasn't a romantic, carefree decision, to be sure. His parents were killed in an auto accident one week before he was to sit for his veterinary medicine exams at Cornell. He buried his parents, learned that they left him nothing because they had mortgaged everything to pay his tuition, returned to school, went to the exams, and didn't write a single word. He walked out without completing the test and wound up on a circus train. The circus he joins, in Depression-era America, is second-rate at best. With Ringling Brothers as the standard, Benzini Brothers is far down the scale and pale by comparison.

From the discussion,  it is believed that the author actually was in the middle of researching/writing another book and was so taken with the circus lifestyle that she changed her pursuit and wrote this book instead.  (Now, she must have discovered some very interesting things to change at a drop of a hat....)

After a little more reading, I found out that the author, Sara Gruen, conducted detailed research (investigative like) on the lifestyle of the circus to include the vernacular, the treatment (good and bad) of the animals, and the climate of the industry.  She has infused this knowledge with her love of writing and created her new work, Water for Elephants.

Ok, I must have been hiding under a rock because this book hit the big screen screen April 22!  See the movie trailer below:

If you have read the book or seen the movie, share with us your thoughts about it!  Thank you!

Talk of the Town Tuesday: "How To Get Out Your Own Way" by Tyrese Gibson

Happy Tuesday Everyone!!

Today's talk is about Tyrese Gibson's  (know as "Mr. Coca Cola" back in the day) new book, How To Get Out Your Own Way.  Here is a brief synopsis provided by Amazon.com:

HOW TO GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY is organized into a series of fundamental questions that helped Tyrese redefine who he was as a human being, and evolve into a new man. Tyrese stresses that life becomes infinitely richer when one takes the time to know him or herself and understand the true meaning of peace and fulfillment. This book is a guide to helping yourself, using his experiences as a learning tool. "It's not about talking down to people, it's about elevating them," Tyrese says.

I have followed Tyrese on my personal twitter page for some time now and I must say, he consistently tweets motivational/inspirational comments from his page.  He encourages his followers to do the things they always dreamed, and that is never to late to turn a negative situation around.  I like the fact that he speaks directly to his followers and not only to just promote his music, movies, and now BOOK!!

I am looking forward to reading what Mr. Gibson has to share with us.  Some of his topics are familiar, however, I want to see what he has to say to those seeking advice, guidance, and/or motivation to "Get Out Their Own Way!!"  Let me know what you think.  And if you have already read the book, please tell us about it! Thanks!!

Motivational Monday "What are your dreams?"

Have you given thought to what you want to create in your life?  Consider each of the different areas of  your life and focus on what you DO want, not what you DON'T get.  Touch basis with this inner truth (your true dreams, goals and heartfelt desires).  Honor them and without fear, shame, or inhibition, move on it!!  Your dreams and desires are not determined by anyone but you and do not need anyone else's approval.  They belong to you, but you have to identify them in order to achieve them!!
~Taken from Key to Living the Law of Attraction by Jack Canfield~

We've got to have a dream,
if we are going to make a dream come true.

Have a wonderful Day!

Book Review: The Seven Deadly Sexual Sins

Title:  The Seven Deadly Sexual Sins
Author: Quiniece Sheppard
Pages:  160
Publisher: Author House
ISBN: 978-1-4389-6019-7
Age: 18+

From the author…..
This book is raw, uncut and uncensored in which I talk candidly and openly about my personal battles with sex and exposes the issues that society as a whole deal with as well. It reveals God's intentions relating to sex and the way God instructs us to use our bodies. For far too long, we have been careless with our bodies and have been using our bodies in the wrong way and now it's time to start doing things the right way. This book exposes what we have been doing wrong and gives you tools and advice on how to start doing it right.

Background
Quiniece Sheppard was raised in a small farm city located in Plantersville, Alabama near historic Selma, Alabama. Raised in a family of thirteen, she is next to the youngest.  Sheppard shares with us that for years, she battled low self-esteem, loneliness, depression and struggled wit her identity which caused her to have issues with sex. This book was written out of her desire to help others overcome the battles of the flesh that she had to deal with. By bringing to light these seven deadly sexual sins that our society deal with, she hopes to inspire and motivate others to change. (Amazon.com)

Front Cover
The burning flames on the cover definitely catch the attention of the reader but may seem a slight bit cliché.  If you consider the title and take in the cover, you can deduce that committing one of the seven deadly sins will result in certain hot death.

My Thoughts
In this book, Quiniece Sheppard shares with us her thoughts regarding sex, lust, masturbation, fornication, pornography, adultery, and other sexual perversions all in a single book!  She also provides her readers with scriptures and an interpretation of what God instructs us to do accordingly.

Motivational Monday "Do You Say Thank You?"

Greetings Everyone!!

Sorry for the delay in our post but we are back now and had a great Spring Break!!  We hope all of you did too! What better way to come back than to Motivational Monday!  So with out further adieu....

A TOKEN OF GRATITUDE

Of all the attitudes we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important, and by far the most life changing.
~ Zig Ziglar

Tell those who have taken out the time to help you, done something meaningful, or just been there for you how much you appreciate them.

There is something about the Spirit of Gratitude that has a positive affect on you and those around you.  May I suggest that throughout your day, take out time and reflect on those things that you are truly grateful for.  How does this make you feel?  This energy that you are feeling is going out and will come back to you!
A thank you a day sends blessings your way! (Something I like to say!)
Have a wonderful Monday and a beautiful week!
