Thursday Tales of Book Reading: "The Ending Sucked!!"

Have you ever been reading (what you would consider the greatest book ever) and the ending let you down?  Did it leave you feeling disappointed, and confused?  Well, I know I have been there before and wanted to ask the author, "Excuse me, but where is the rest of the story or did you run out of creative ideas?"

One of the worst things you can experience while enjoying the wonderful world of reading is to experience an amazing journey that an author has taken you on and the ending is very anticlimatic.  At this point you may hope that there is a part two or sequel to the book to find out that it isn't.  So, what do you do?  Do you share with all your friends your experience?  Well here are a few suggesions that you may want to consider:

1.  Write a review.  Many booksellers, such as Amazon, B&N, Borders, etc., provide a place where you can leave a review about the books that you have read. I recommend taking this approach because you are able to express how you felt about the book and often times rate the book as well.  This information is viewed by the public (including the author).  You also gain insight about how others felt about the book and   leaving your comments will add to the overall rating of the book.  (The authors/publishers care about public reponse to the book!)

2.  Contact the author.  If you believe that leaving a review is simply not enough, then contact the author. Authors typically have websites to promote themselves/books and here you shold be able to find information about contacting them (via email mostly).  I suggest keeping your comments, while you may have been disappointed about the book, respectful and tasteful.  Include a few questions to attempt to gain insight on the authors intent and direction for the book. (And ask about future sequels!!)

3.  Blog.  Blogging (what I am doing now) is one of the easiest ways to express YOUR opinions to the world.  Typically, its free to create an account and quite simple.  Warning!! Your audience does not come with your account so you will have to go out and find them!!

So, don't get too bent out of shape about it!  Write a review, discuss with a few friends or book club members, and on to the next book!  Also, don't hold it against the author.  This is just one book and the next one could be dy-no-mite!! (In my JJ Evans voice) And who knows, it may be because of your comments! Now get to it!
